About the Lincoln Theological Institute
The LTI Director is Prof. Peter Scott; the Postdoctoral Research Associate is Dr Charlotte Bray.
Inaugurated in 1997, the Lincoln Theological Institute for the Study of Religion and Society is:
- a national and international centre of expertise in the contemporary theological study of religion and society
- a promoter of theological research and study into a variety of contemporary ethical, pastoral, social and ecclesial issues
The LTI commissions independent research projects, organizes conferences and seminars and produces reports and other publications on many aspects of the sociology of religion, contemporary Christianity and Church and society. LTI is located in the Department of Religions and Theology at the University of Manchester.
The theological research of the Lincoln Theological Institute coalesces around the following contemporary themes:
- Place, locality, habitation, and ecology
- Global threats and powers
- Religion and civil society
- Technology, limits and transformation
- Power and institutions (including the church)
- Liberation, political, ecological, postcolonial and public theologies
- Culture—including religious cultures—and resources of hope
- Theologies of education
Please see our blog for details of LTI activities, events, and outputs that engage with these themes. The blog for the Department of Religions and Theology is here.
In 2018, the LTI celebrated 21 years of pioneering research into theology and society. To mark this, a special brochure was commissioned, and you can view it in the widget below (or download it here).
